I think as superstar pointed out, you have to be selective in who you decide to message.

I message girls who I have an interest in, who I would want to spend time with not just physically.

I usually dont go for long essays however if you get along, the message just starts to break off into lots of little topics. I just play it by ear if I'm honest, no hard or fast rules
