Well it's happened to me during the day and they were on their own. I think it's normal. No need to make excuses as it can happen to anyone.
But then again, maybe you are right. One did ask me out of the blue but I declined. She then told me that she will be back at 12am and that's when I spoke to her. Does that mean I opened her?
