Not sure why I do this or where I picked it up but I always go for:

Me: Random boring question i.e. Do you have any pets?
X: Well I don't, but my parents do... etc etc
Me"Really? Interesting! So X, When are you going kiss me? (or You want to kiss me don't you?"

I've had a 100% hit rate... but I get a feeling when its going to work.

Simple. And no bullshit (well... maybe a little).
