Review: No More Mr Nice Guy

I've listened to this book twice now, once a couple of months ago and again just a few days ago and had contrasting opinions on it.

The first time I listened to it I thought that it had no relevance to me, definately useful to others but I didn't need it and the way the author constantly refers to a 'relationship' pissed me off.

When I read it a few days ago, baring in mind I lost a relationship, my opinions changed drastically. It made sense. Some of it is just obvious but there was times where I was literally like "fuck yeahh". The constant 'wife/husband/relationship' reference was still annoying though but understandable.

After reading this book I felt like I just knew what I needed to do and I went and sorted the problem out with my friend that same night. The message that resonated from this book was 'stick up for yourself, be secure' which is similar to what I've always said about people wanting to know where they fit into your life, not been the center of it.

If you hold a good stability to your identity and your authenticity then I've realised that making up with someone is simple.
"You know me and what I'm like, if I wanted to call you that I would have said it to you straight up and to your face."
Because I am me and show my authenticity she backed right down in agreement with me. Even in a disagreement, the other person doesn't want a simple push over, stand your ground in a way that resembles who you are.

The contents of this book showed me a power, in a way, which I overlooked. Good read.

I burst into tears after reading it. So muchy of it rings true for me.

I need to read it again; I'ver always meant to try the breaking free exercises but never done them.

I've never done any of the exercises so Im not sure if they're beneficial. I suppose it would help to effect change.
