I know a guy whose actual, real-life job (ya rly) is a PTI in the Royal Marines, where you have to be in genuinely good shape, not just look like it. I've started following his routine after 3 years of bodybuilding, and I'm already much fitter, healthier and stronger, plus my heart rate is down in the low 50s. I don't have to eat a trillion tonnes of protein per day either!

I'll post it tomorrow when I can be arsed typing more.

Night all.

whats your routine? just to see a different take on things.

BCB: I think I'll try your program once I'm done with my current one halfway into february.

I work out 5 times a week, and run to work mon, wed and fri. So hopefully by then you got a full weeks program sorted :D

BCB 04-02-2011 10:17 AM

My bad here guys - I've been well lapse... just getting time every day to throw together the next days plan has been a right ballache

What I'll do is over the weekend write a full routine for the following week, and then just do that each weekend. Means I can do it in one shot then and nothing will get messed up.

That sounds like a good plan. I like the look of the routines but would be reluctant to follow them unless I knew they would be there consistently.

OK.

It's over 2 weeks.

Bodyweight circuit (BWC) - press ups, situps, lunges, tricep dips, squats, pullups

Weights Circuit (WC) - Seated shoulder press, bench press, squats, bicep curls, upright rows

Best effort = BE,
Steady pace (and fewer than maximum reps) = SP

Week 1

Monday AM - 2 mile run at SP
Monday PM - BWC at SP

Tuesday - WC at SP

Wednesday AM - 4 mile run at SP
Wednesday PM - BWC at SP

Thursday - WC at SP

Friday AM - 6 mile run at SP
Friday PM - BWC at SP

Weekend - sprint training/yoga/swimming (whatever you want, relevant to your sport or goals) rest on one of the days.

Week 2

Monday AM - 2 mile run at BE
Monday PM - BWC at BE

Tuesday - WC at BE

Wednesday AM - 4 mile run at BE
Wednesday PM - BWC at BE

Thursday - WC at BE

Friday AM - 6 mile run at BE
Friday PM - BWC at BE

Weekend - sprint training/yoga/swimming (whatever you want, relevant to your sport or goals) rest on one of the days.

Repeat. The reps will get higher and the weights heavier over time. You can increas the runs as you see fit.

Whatever the OP says, the routines he has posted ARE bodybuilding routines (5-7 meals per day lol), which are much more concerned with aesthetics than performance.

Also, PT and fitness qualifications aren't that hard to get. You can get a basic qualification in about 12 weeks and go on to work in a gym from there, and in the physical fitness/training world, experience is considered much, much more significant than academic qualifications. The OP has 4 years' experience (in a health club open to the public, I'm guessing), the guy who gave me that routine above has 20-odd in the Royal Marines. Just saying.

A masters afaik is a 5-6 years academic qualification that require a lot of effort to take. So what we have here is a qualified person stating something, and you telling us your friend said...

Just saying

Well, more like 2 years for most masters degrees but i take your point. i'm not discrediting his qualification, I'm just saying that, in the physical training world, there are many theories as to the 'best' way to train, and experience counts for much more than classroom studies.

Also, my "friend" is a 43 year old Royal Marines PTI. You have be in ridiculous shape to get accepted into the RM training programme, and even better shape to pass.

And he's the guy that trains the people who train the Marines, and he has been doing the job for around 20 years. Trust me he has all sorts of qualifications, but it's the experience that is more worthwhile.

BCB's routines so far, and his nutrition advice are for BODYBUILDING. That's all. The routine I posted is simple, easy to follow, and will get you in better shape than about 99% of people in this country.

Look, piss off into your own thread, this is about looking awesome not running the mile in 5 minutes and doing 100 pushups
My boredom threshold of this gay bum bantering is far too high

people are argueing over gay semantics with what constitues being in shape
this thread is a proponent of weight training, general gym work.
we are rolling with asthetics here because this is what we are showing to girls
