So (she asks) do you chat up a lot of girls?

A terribly newbie question I need to ask here, I know, but it's one I can't remember having yet found a clear answer to. A while back (okay, a couple of years ago) I chatted to a random girl in Waterstones (you're more likely to find me in a bookshop than a club these days) and flirted with her.

She asked me (smiling): so do you go up to a lot of girls you've never met before?

I can't actually remember exactly what I said, but I was honest when I said no, I didn't. Whether she believed me was another matter.

Is there a surefire way to circumvent a question like that?

Instinctively, my reply to her would have been "yes, because I love meeting new people" but that punts you straight in the friend zone.

Good question. I look forward to the answers!

you could try sarcasm...

"Oh yeah ofcourse i do. Especially when they look like [descibe what she looks like]" - then give her a cheekey smile and maybe a little chuckle..

Peace

Interesting idea, Y45, but somehow it doesn't quite gel with me. Good for a club, maybe, not so much a bookshop? Different kinds of girls, maybe not quite so susceptible to that particular take on cocky funny. Usually. Maybe. (Can you sense my uncertainty?)

On the other hand, you might be right and I might be talking balls: It's one thing for me to talk about I think might work, and another to actually do it, so I'll reserve judgement until the next time.

It's the kind of thing that needs a killer response - if only I can think of it.

your answer is irrelevant it's how you say it and if it doesn't affect you.

You could say:
"yup" smile and change the subject
"No, must be your lucky day"
"sometimes, when I feel like it"

it doesn't matter as long you answer with confidence. I would say being unashamedly truthful is probably best.

Wait. Here's one. And it's totally perfect for a bookshop. In fact I'm nicking it from The Game.

It's a story by Haruki Murakami (how much better can you get for a bookshop?) called 'Meeting the 100% perfect girl one beautiful April morning'. Google it and you should find the whole story. It's very short. Strauss references it towards the end of the book.

I should have (if I'd known about the story) told her I'd just read it, and was inspired by it to talk to her.

Read the story and you'll know exactly what I mean.

Edit: Breaker - or even just say 'sometimes', and then change the subject. That would work for me.

"Only the ones I'm attracted to"

If she can't handle me chatting to women I fancy, she's too uptight and there's no point getting to know her.

fenix_3 20-03-2011 06:23 PM

Blanca: nice.

If she was smiling and looking at you in the eyes when she said this then it was an IOI, meaning your response needs to be an IOI. If she was looking at you weirdly and gone off when she asked you this then its an IOD so you must reply with an IOD.

As for your reply something i think is always good and flirtatious is to reply to a question with another question. You can flip the question back onto her if your not sure of the best reply.

"well do you always go up to guys youve never met before?"

Her: Sorry ive got a boyfriend
Me:

Her: Ive just seen you chatting up those girls over there...
Me:

Her: Im out of your league
Me:
