Advice please

There is a woman I know who, for various reasons, I am not especially interested in dating. It has nothing to do with looks or personality but rather an excessive amount of personal baggage.

It's rather complicated, but she has recently split from her husband and tells me she has somebody new in her life, an old childhood flame. I have not met the chap, but I have been around to her house a few times in recent weeks for dinner. She also asked me along to a concert last December and recently took to calling me every now and again to talk about her brain twisting ex who, according to her, is making life difficult for her.

I consider her a friend and I've dealt with the issues strictly on a friendship basis, just offering the odd snippet of advice and support and I've got no problem being a pair of ears. I have recently started to wonder, though, why she's talking to me. She has friends she has known much longer and is much closer too, after all.

It is probably nothing more than her seeking a bit more male company in her life but given how so much of female communication is smoke and mirrors I can't help but wonder if there's an elusive obvious I am missing.

As I said I'm not really interested in having a relationship with this woman - this is probably nothing more than the "nice guy girl'friend'" - but still I was thinking it could prove useful practice for me at learning to read between the lines of what women really mean.

Or... chill out. It is quite possible to have female friends that are pretty but you don't fancy, and each of you see other people. In fact, I just did some texts with one such lass this morning, we had a laugh about something. Part of your social ciricle. Chill.

You're obviously in the friend zone mate. I wouldn't worry too much. Women don't talk about their ex's so much around guys they're interested in.

Think you're looking a bit too deeply in to this.

That's no problem at all - something of a relief to be honest! I'm not very good at reading body language or reading between the lines etc.
