dealing with an alpha

By all accounts, my friend isn't actually an alpha in the traditional sense. He's 5'6 and not particularly attractive, but very witty, funny and confident. Anyway, a situation arose the other day when he came to talking about his past girlfriends and started showing pictures of them all in our friend group, most of whom are female. I didn't know how to deal with this situation as he was obviously just trying to show off. By talking about my own ex girlfriends, i would look like a complete tool trying to compete. How could i have subtly taken him down a peg or two without looking like an idiot?

Ignore him, don't comment or fuel his ego about his comments. If you do't want to join in with stuff about your ex's then don't.

Read the book The Game and see how an old school Tyler Durden dealt with Mystery's awesomeness, although I wouldn't recommend it because it generates bad karma and then Tyler was completely tooled in the way his character was portrayed in the book.

Alternatively, you could develop a lifestyle and options whereby you don't even give an incident like this a second thought. He was probably just having fun talking about his past/looking for a bit of validation. Just because he's alpha doesn't mean he's perfect. I mean how can you be sure he was even trying to "bring you down"?

Although it's been hard, this past month I've been out approaching loads and getting experience taking the rough with the smooth. What I noticed was I focus on the rejections, how I can improve etc. Incidents like this in my social circle don't even register.

Usually the person who is actually "alpha" higher value is shown by who is responsive to whom. So he was doing that to get a reaction from you which I'm guessing he succeeded. He was using you and your respond to build himself up.

So personally for me I would just let there be awkward pauses and have my attention elsewhere like I was looking at a building or interested in something else more relevant like I didn't even hear him and let him feel that awkwardness of his statements. He put it out there and would be wondering why there is no response. We have all been in those moments when we've said said something and we can hear crickets and have a "WTF did I just say moment"

By being indifferent, non-reactive without getting testy and unresponsive you essentially out alpha him. Meditation helps with this level of non-responsiveness. This applies to approaching women as well of not being responsive of womens shit test. As the one of higher value chooses what they feel they want to respond to. Whether that be certain questions or shit test etc.
