Looks intense.

This show makes me cringe.

Hustler25 18-02-2010 12:13 PM

I caught this show once briefly as me and a mate were preparing to go out. After watching it my friend felt really inadequate about himself, began questioning the shallowness of women and no longer wanted to go out that evening. I had to really talk him round to get him to realise the show is bull-shit and to come out.

I doubt he is the only man to feel this way when watching this show. On the flip-side I felt sorry for the mingers. In the episode I saw, alot of the less attractive girls would hold out until the end only for the guy to select the most attractive girl that was left. For me this show only raises and promotes the ideal of 'girl power' amongst women whilst damaging the reputation of women to many males that feel strong adverse reactions to the show, such as that of my friend.

It also shows to high-light the lack of foresight some women possess, the guy could say or do one small thing that would instantly lose him attraction in some of the girls yet he 'ticks all her other boxes'.

Don't despair, thankfully the sample of women selected for the show are probably the types motivated by appearing on TV, being famous and money whilst being image obessessed and have tendancy to watch I(idiot)TV on a frequent basis. Not a fair reflection of most women or men for that matter.

'Dont read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly' Baz Lurman, watching this show is the male equivalent to some guys, so don't allow yourselves to be consumed by it.

If Duncan Butlin watched this show he'd be spitting nails!!

The show is pure cheese

I really wanna see this show now just to see the ideals that are being sold to the nation - the woman as the selector!!

It's interesting though, most of the fans of the show on the website are women, yet I supsect most of them would prefer a guy to take charge, have some balls and select them.

The bar that the contestants go to in the show, Fernandos, is actually Bijou bar in manc, near to the cathedral.

Just a bit of random, irrelevant trivia for you lot

And to be honest, even though the show is clearly gash, its still pretty funny. "No likey, no lighty". Classic. Need to use that line on a bird sometime

Uh god.
I was just sick a little bit in my mouth. :dead1:

DABERNON 27-02-2010 08:53 AM

I watched a few of these shows - to be honest there were quite a lot of very ordinary women - it wasn't mainly HB's.

I think Hustler25 makes a really good point - it's not a representative sample it's skewed in favour of extrovert attention seekers whose main motivation is more likely to be attention and fame than getting a date.

It was strange how when a guy came on who you would think would be unpopular - sometimes the girls waited for the next opportunity to blow him out. So it appeared that they weren't phased by his looks but they found some trivial pretext to eliminate him next time. I wonder if they are just trying to be kind and to appear to be judging on something other than looks - when really he was a no hoper from the first.

Girls like Samantha who I thought was one of the hottest - switched her light off every time until the last show.

Frankly I don't think there is anything to learn from the show - and I can see how depressing it is for guys because it seemed to show that women are so random and fickle that we've not got much chance of success. I think we just have to write this off as entertainment with no real relevance.

Loved the suggestion of using "no likey no lighty"

Cheers

This is one of the biggest criticisms of Pavlov's work. These patterns only occur because of the controlled environment, and so therefore lacks validity. Not that I'm knocking what he did, but in this kind of TV programme it gives an unrealistic view of social behaviour.

Summer Junky 27-02-2010 12:49 PM

For sure, but I don't think any accurate conclusions can be made from this programme.

Apart from the fact that all the cheesy guys are acting up for the camera, when looking at social situations controlled environments undoubtedly influence results.

Summer Junky 27-02-2010 01:57 PM

Yeah I guess I'm just thinking from the perspective of the typical viewer, who could be influenced by some of the stuff that is portrayed on programmes like these.
Interesting comparison, Paddy and Pavlov. Funny!

i 100% agree with this, i was thinking about mention it but couldnt quite articulate it...

It was like... they already made their minds up... waited til the 2nd or 3rd round, incase they got the opportunity to get a bit of interaction with Paddy... then seeked for an excuse to get their light off!!

i remember one scottish lad, dressed in white... absolute no-hoper... he nearly got completely shut down apart form like 3 women in the first round... then there was this last round, only one HB left... and she was saying 'well he's dressed in white, moneyt, blah blah...' (like she was giving him a chance)

then third round... he was about to read somethign, and literally after the 2nd word came out his mouth... she banged her light off!!!

lol bollocks tbh

I wish i could go on there though, there would be some merciless negging!!!! hehe

I completely agree with that Picard i was watching the show one night and this guy was making a cocktail and he put a paper umbrella in it and one of the girls turned her light off because of this said it was cheesy, and it was because she thought that he was close to the real deal but not quite.

Most of the women on the show you would do well to avoid you may get the odd nice one.

picard 28-02-2010 07:44 PM

hah, yeha and the girl that took the cocktial guy out said she was 'fun loving'

then after the date where she ordered tap-water... she said shes 'more up for turning in early and putting the kettle on!'

...bitches!!

legend 28-02-2010 10:26 PM

I just see the funny side of this programme. One I can remember was the Scottish guy with his sleek appearance, white suit, dyed blonde hair, diamond ear rings, showing off his boy racer car, only to go home without a date, PLONKER!!! Hahahaha...!

p.s. Shameless is funny too...!
