Default Personify your fears: - 23-12-2009, 09:41 AM

I’ve been doing an experiment recently, new strategies to overcome anxieties and fears, I would like to share them with you all I think it could be some benefit:

The Psychological condition of fear is not of any immediate danger.
It has many forms: Anxiety, worry, unease, nervousness, tension, dread , phobia etc.
These type of fears are always to do with what mite happen as appose to what are actually happening RIGHT NOW! You are here while your mind is in the future.

Ok so I read books on how to overcome demons, how to get better confidence and I just couldn’t find anything which suited me, or anything I could really get stuck in to motivate a change, so I decided to grab a pen and a piece of paper and experiment with my own fear busting exercises.

Stage 1:
PERSONIFY YOUR ENEMY:
Ok, you can do this in meditation I prefer when I’m doing YOGA, JIU JITSU , or FOCUS Meditation ( in which one stares at a candle light in darkness watching the dance of the flames the many different shapes it shifts )
you can just sit quietly for a few minutes close your eyes "think about one in- particular fear for now".

Now give life to your fear, create a body, looks, gender anything you wish which will help you in the later stages of this exercise. Make mental notes of each fears appearance, mannerisms, idiosyncrasies, weapons, hair, features, body language (the more detail the better) and write them all down/ even attempt to doodle them/ fantasy drawings are the best, Japanese demons would be great to study for an imaginative
idea..

PERSONALISE YOUR FEARS:
Ok so my fears are HEIGHTS, INSECTS, AA, now in my fear destroying exercise I’ve been doing the same, drawing the individual fears, giving them a body a life (because for sure HEIGHTS is not a one entity nor is AA they don’t grasp an appearance) but now they have become a one entity an actual force I can deal with/ an opponent glaring into my eyes laughing.

By doing this in these fear situations I will no longer be fighting an impossible invisible foe, but in fact a foe with an appearance. For personalising your fears I believe will make you overcome them more, give you more drive as now its personal "you against them" (FEARS have become beings in essence)
and with a change of perception.
Its like me knowing you have a fear and saying "You wimp bet you wont Approach her" you may be likely to prove me wrong well its hopefully the same in this case, "TAKE YOUR FEARS PERSONALLY".

PERSONIFY YOUR INNER HERO:
Ok so we’ve gone on a little about you personifying your fears, which is kind of like summing up all negative affirmations about ONE particular fear into one voice, one enemy, well now you need a positive (A HERO)
and this hero is you, but you will draw him as mighty and worthy as you wish, keeping your appearance, mannerisms, personality, but imbued in runes, armour, weapons etc use your imagination (Play Zelda for ages or something ) Think about this new character, it could even be your PUA alter ego and bare his name.

PERSONALISE YOUR INNER HERO:
Ok so very simple, flip the switch on the personalising fear section, your Inner hero is brave when in times were he is faced with the above mentioned fears, be creative say for example he has a sword you’ve given him imbue it with magical abilities which will help one overcome the fears, for example my sword is the SWORD OF HEIGHTS it’s a slayer weapon which means any beast in the sky if I can reach it I can slay it with a single blow.

THREE STAGES OF BATTLE/ THE MIND WAR (Confront, Combat, Victory)

1/ CONFRONT: Relax just imagine for a moment your hero stumbling across one of your personified fears, feel the feelings taking place, the anxiety, the worry, now watch as you INNER HERO Nor Advances Nor Retreats a step, how is he feeling, watch him repeat Positive Affirmations you’ve given him.
Evaluate the FEAR is it laughing, is it retreating, is it advancing etc

2/ COMBAT: Now imagine your HERO Fighting with the FEAR in a furious battle, embracing, struggling.
see the HERO repeating affirmations which each time weaken the FEARS strength upon thee.

3/VICTORY: Picture the FEAR defeated, beaten in combat, as your HERO Gallantly stand over with glorious posture, and most importantly REMEMBER THE POSTURE OF YOUR VICTORIOUS HERO IMBUE IT IN YOUR MIND AS A SYMBOL FOR HEROISM (Bit like an Anchor).

SEE AN ARTIST (The magician):
Now go to an artist and have him draw your HERO and draw your FEARS, explain how you want them to look, name, features background, props nearby etc give him as much detail as possible).

Now the fun part, Have three paintings symbolising your three journeys (Confront, Combat, Victory) "THREE PAINTING FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL FEAR"

I’m having a friend do this I’m overcoming a fear of heights as we speak but its hard to overcome, non the less I’m trying to, which means only two drawing canvas he’s made me The CONFRONT CANVAS Is of me at the bottom of a ladder looking up as it goes into the sky were a Demon Taunts and laughs on a cloud down at my woeful HERO bellow which represents me.

The Second Drawing by its side is COMBAT I’m climbing the ladder as he still taunts, my HERO is brave but not victorious (this symbolises my actual efforts to overcome).
Now you get the point when I am Victorious ill have another Canvas aside (VICTORY) the other of me on top of the Cloud killing the Demon, in my room I can then explain the stages of each fear and have a great story to tell from each stage.
For my own personal pleasure and for others.

THREE STAGES OF BATTLE/ THE MORTAL WAR:
Now you can in situations of fear Whether your about to approach a beautiful lady or climb high heights you can now see your demon, defy it and overcome it, this will hopefully help.

Another personal FEAR of mine is approach anxiety but in social situations, I can gladly open a woman but in front of others its very difficult and putting a strain on my game, so I’m having a painting done like this:

CONFRONT:
Demon behind a beautiful taunting, laughing, using her as a shield to stop me from fighting it, and to aid him lots of ghouls and demons all around symbolising the social pressure..

COMBAT:
So I’m now in this painting approaching the lady and fending her of from the ghouls and ghosts all around, including fending of the demon.

VICTORY:
Shows me imbued in light with all the ghouls and ghosts, burning fleeing, and I’m slaying the demon and saving the chic. (JUST DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU BUT BE CREATIVE)

MY REVIEW:
Well I may write a book about this in the future, but first I need to test it,
So far all is going well its actually helped me face my fears, I used this to make successful approaches and to get rid of some AA however the more I find I invest and embrace my INNER HERO and FEARS the more I am able to overcome these situations, for me any way I find this a great FEAR killer, but each to his own.

Seeing as though after practice and field testing, I do have ambitions for a book on this however what better place than here to have my fellow friends give advice and comment?

Thanks Will…
