noob at the gym

Okay I've started up at the gym for the first time what rules and etiquette are there to follow, wiping down the machine you've used is pretty obvious one but if your starting up how's best to get along and do your thing without feeling embarrassed?

Roody mi old fruit!

joes helpful tips;
  1. dont wipe anything down
  2. dont give a shit about anyone else looking at u
  3. warm up/stretch first
  4. take head phones and use them when doing weights/cardio, will help u lift more and go longer and will keep u from getting in ur own head
  5. to not look like a noob, ur gonna need to get used to the different exercises on the machines/free weights, you can do this to an extent by watching online vids of how different exercises r performed. from the vids ull learn alot of differen exercises that u never knew about and ull learn about correct posture. after that its best to just get to grips with the different machines weights and learn hands on.
  6. forget heavy to begin with, go light and do with strict form. later on once youve mastered form go heavy with as strict form as u can.
  7. keep varying the exercises u do from week to week or month to month, variation is vital for muscle stimulation and growth
  8. free weights r better than machines, easier on the joints, full muscle development and more natural
  9. feel free to ask someone if u can "work in" if theyre using the machine/weights u want, ie when theyve finished a set, u do a set, after ur set they do a set, then when they finshed u do a set..etc....its normal
  10. install a bodybuilding app, jefit or bodybuilding.com, they show u all different exercises at the click of a button, good if ur forgetful or need inspiration in the gym
  11. know that its a learning process and ull still be learning and making mistakes 5 years in

go Roodi! keep us upto date with ur progress!

This is mining! I expect others to wipe down equipment so do it myself. Also, put the weights back where you found them. That, is etiquette.

Hence first thing I picked up. I sweat like a bitch working out, it just seemed manners.

What else?

Sticking to the original question, really just cleaning down the machines of sweat and allowing people their personal space to move around, wearing appropriate gear, being tidy with your towel and whatnot. In terms of embarrassment, just know that people are in their own heads with their own insecurities so won't be studying you as you may think, besides fuck em, focus on yourself. Personally I put the blinkers on and make it a "flow" type experience where I'm immersed in what I'm doing, I don't fuck about in the gym.

I found wearing a lycra unitard really helped me blend in without embarrassment.

Oh yeah rude stuff, general gym advice is that u should do three exercises per body part.

Wear black if ur gonna sweat like we all imagine u wil ;-)

Ull work it all out :-D

Ps..seriously don't wipe anything down. hahaha

Things that used to fuck me off at the gym:

People talking to you when you are training
people getting in the way of an exercise - ive actually hit somone with a dumbell a few times to prove a point
people not being observant -- ie you are using a bench, get up to grab a drink from the water fountain and somone sits on your bench instead of asking if you are done with it
somone using a machine for a ridiculous amount of time
3 people training together and above
people on mobile phones when you want their bench

Reflex, u anti-social psycho!

Rock on!!!!
Go on! Awesome! Though I don't go to that extreme, assuming u mean it literally.

My upsetting gym point is the motherfuckers who hoard all the equipment. As soon as u go near one of the bench press / dumbells u really need lying on floor / arm press thing / other useful thing, turns out the cunt is using all of it as it's his own personal circuits! I says, busy gym, I find I can only use one bit of equipment at one time, stare him out like. So cunt face relents and I use some of the equipment.

my gym is so basic we don't have anything to wipe down with.

just wash your hands well afterwards.
