I've found it difficult in the past to find good, scientifically sound, information on body building that wasn't someone paraphrasing the million + articles on the dichotomy of fat loss and muscle gain. This guy runs a blog that exposes a lot of the bullshit surrounding the body building industry, and his blog makes for good general reading for anyone interested in physical fitness. He also released a free ebook called Maximum Muscle (bear with me) that's heavy on the science but enlightening so do give it a read. Back when I first found his blog a few years ago, the biggest thing for me was learning the ineffectiveness of body split programs for beginners; I saw much better results when I switched to a full body workout. From his site:

'AmpedTraining is about getting stronger, leaner, and more muscular, without being an idiot. I’m all about evidence-backed and analytical discussion of exercise and fitness topics, with a little dash of philosophy and other stuff that has entirely nothing to do with lifting weights, but I like it anyway.'
