Yeah, as jokey as it sounds I often just think YOLO when making decisions. Obviously professionally, it needs a little more careful thought. The other part of that is that the older you get the less you give a fuck. Although I'm only 35.

I work on the Railway and when I applied for the job I was interviewed by the head of Train crew, In the interview he asked what do you want from the Railway? I said I want your job. He laughed and said "You can fucking have it"

The day after I officially passed my probation my boss got fired.
I didn't post about until now because I was in shock and was hanging on to the hope that he'd appeal and win, but it's not going to happen and he's already engaged in communications for alternative opportunities.
It's definitely one of those moments that remind you how fucking fast things can change.

For passing probation in my new job I was expecting a 500 quid salary boost.
For Decembers pay I got significantly more than expected. I messed about with a salary calculator for a bit and based on the numbers it would appear that I got a 3k increase.
I'm not entirely sure what to do about this. I mean, if it's genuine, I'm obviously delighted, but I'm thinking, what if it's a test of honesty?
The way I see it, I have three choices..
One is to leave it until next month and see if I get the same amount, then I'll query with the COO.
Two is to query it right away as soon as we start back on the 4th.
Three is to just say absolutely nothing at all.
There was no mention of any extra Christmas bonus going to be added to our pay. But even so, the numbers are very specific and would work out at exactly 3k.
What would any of you fine fuckers do?

It turned out to be a £250 Christmas bonus that they didn't tell me about. They were supposed to send me a letter stating how the bonus was a thank you for my hard work throughout our launch year.
I wouldn't have needed to question it if I'd got that letter on the day we were supposed to get it (the 18th) but alas, 250 quid extra for doing my job was much appreciated.

Joined the 5am club again this morning. Got a good bit of experience with it on the back end of the summer. For some reason I find it easier to get up at 5am than any other time.
Didn't make any kind of list of new years resolutions, just had a few ideas in my head of changes I was going to make.
There's only really a few main ones; joining the 5am club, meditation right after I wake up, followed by a working out again after my elbow injury put me out of use for a year, then have other productive shit scheduled between the workout, and work.
As for scheduling, that's another one "make a damn schedule" - Dr Peterson. I discovered the benefits of this last year, periodically writing my weeks tasks and shit down and ticking them off. Having a schedule even if you didn't hit it with 100% accuracy is simply better than not having one.
Deleted Facebook off my phone on the 3rd of January. Blows my mind as well as saddens me a little that right now I know hundreds of people who have probably spent 150 hours wastefully scrolling that shit this year already. Instagram I logged out of about 5 months ago and I couldn't get back in due to a password error and I was fucking relieved. I was like bye bye cunt.
The biggest point I wish to put down on this virtual paper is that in my experience it's best not to start making any of your hoped-for changes until about 7, 10, 14 days into the new year. I figured that's why 80% of people who make new years resolutions fail, because they "fucked up" by the time two or three weeks have passed when they should only really be making a proper go of things around that time. The best thing to do is definitely to allow the first week or two to pass by and don't worry about it. During this time I was making a few mental notes and plan as to what I was going to do. I didn't need to write anything down because I'd successfully sustained these habits before. If it's new to you by all means write things down.
Glad I held off on starting the History degree, at least for now. It would have been a huge commitment to make at a time when I'm just not in a position to make such a commitment. And anyways, I'd rather first of all see what comes of this prospective online university Jordan Peterson has been talking about for the last couple of years.
Gotta get my #gainz back

In December I made a submission in response to a Facebook post created by Dr Jordan Peterson within which he was running a Christmas holiday giveaway campaign for his Discovering Personality course.
To enter, you were required to state your case as to why you think you deserve to receive it for free. It's normally about $150. My submission has earned me the course.
I know Kowalski is absolutely delighted for me ✌😎

As part of the Discovering Personality course you also get a coupon code for free access to his Understanding Myself personality test. I've done a few of these types of tests before but the free online versions I done were crap compared to how detailed, informative and relevant the breakdown and explanations on this one was.
My results of the big five personality trait scientific model are..
Agreeableness: Moderately High - 65th percentile
Conscientiousness: Exceptionally High - 97th percentile
Extraversion: Exceptionally High - 97th percentile
Openness to Experience: Very High - 91st percentile
Neuroticism: Exceptionally Low - 3rd percentile
I responded to the 100 statements as honestly as I could, and I'm really happy with the results. Having read through all the detailed descriptions of not only the big five but also their sub categories / further aspects, this was a really good way to kick off the course, as opposed to jumping right into the lectures and associated work. I'm excited for it, now that I've got a lot more to think about regarding me myself and I.
Impressed so far.
