My new-ish manager left on Monday and isn't coming back.

That same day, we were made aware the company is being acquired by one of the current 50% shareholders, to 100% ownership.

I'm not entirely displeased by either of these revelations. The manager was out of his depth, and the new sole shareholders are a behemoth Irish oil group who just celebrated their centenary in business.

We're in good hands.

Today I had my application accepted for a post-grad course.

It's one module of a masters degree - 'Entrepreneurship in Context'

The really cool thing is, this offer popped on on Facebook a few weeks ago. It was an Open University advert, displaying that they had a limited number of fully-funded post-grad courses available to apply for.

Obviously, this caught my attention and I spent the evening picking out the two best ones I felt most matched up with my interests and that I could make the best use of.

You were allowed to apply for two, and I got the one I wanted most. It's worth just over £1500, and I'm getting it free. Amazing.

So, I'm getting to experience a taste of masters-level study.

Starting in November.

I planned to resign this Monday morning coming, and transition into my freelance work. But my US boss says she can't take me on full time until January 1st, but that we have some amazing projects coming up for Q1 2022. And I'm a cert at that point.

This actually sounds picture perfect. To start a new career on the first day of the year.

The thing is now, I still really want to walk out the door of my main job, and I have my reasons other than the company being a fucking joke. I'm talking, being psychologically ganged up on. If only they knew how crazy I am, there would be no smarmy, sneaky remarks. I want to kill them.

But rather than be hasty, I'm going to tell my manager I need to go back to working from home (from which there's no bloody difference whether I'm in the office or not!). If I can't do that, I walk with immediate effect.

Although I'm pretty sure she'll allow it. She's the most reasonable and assertive leader within the whole, falling apart, piece of shit company.

PS: After I'm gone I will be taking it upon myself to leave extensive former employee reviews on glassdoor and ripoff report.

I will not go quietly after what's been done to me.

Still seems hasty. Probably best to monkey branch it. At the least I'd tell them and then start doing it whatever they say and make them process me. Why quit? Make them do the work of following the law carefully and dismissing you legally.

What's your beef with them?

Peace,

Yeah, I've decided I'm just going to do what I want (work from home) and if they have an issue with that they can do whatever they think they need to do. If I was shown the door on the spot (which I won't/can't be) I'd be excited about it because it would make me step up and make shit happen.

One of my main beefs is that I haven't had adequate time to process the death of my sister in August. I know it's not their problem, but they expect me to be in the office because the operations team is "office-based" whilst half of the company such as the computer nerd guys get to work from home.

That is utter bullshit because 1. in my job as a credit controller, nobody in the operations team is reliant on my physical presence, and 2. why does half the company get to work from home and 60% of the workforce can, when we can totally run the entire operation remotely? (which we've managed before).

The reason this is significant to me is that I have anxiety most of the time now in the aftermath of my loss, and working from home in my comfort zone alleviates that. I was bugged into returning to the office by a new manager (who walked out the day I returned) before I was ready to. So all I'm really planning to do is step back to what I was doing a few weeks ago.

It's a fucking power play. They just want people in the office so that they're not paying rent for no reason. Although the acting manager is a very reasonable lady and I'm sure she'll be understanding of my needs. If the company itself refused to cater for that, after all that I've done for them, then I don't want to be connected to such an organisation for longer than necessary.

Aside from that, I feel like attitudes have changed towards me since I returned to the office. I feel like I'm being psychologically pushed out. If I was to express the reasons why I feel this way to anyone it could easily be dismissed as paranoia, but being a qualified student of human behavior, I'm certain of my own experience.

And this is all aside from the year of mental anguish the company has caused me due to launching a half-assed attempt at a big business without putting proper procedures in place and having me on the front line taking bullshit from customers due to the company's inconsistencies. We've almost certainly broken laws in the process.

I mentally left the building back in May when I originally delivered my resignation and they kept their clutches on me rather than just let me fucking go. This is the time to go but you're right, I'm not going to just walk. I'll do things my way.

EDIT: Another thing that's been very obvious and present here is that I had to return to work out of necessity. If I'd stayed off, I'd have only gotten sick pay, which of course, doesn't even cover rent. Whereas, in the company that I left for these fucks, I could have taken up to 6 months off on full pay to deal with my bereavement.

These guys gave me one week of paid compassionate leave.

I know it's not an obligation, but coming from a company where I had so many more benefits, this has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Fucking great news. I got a call from some lovely lady at The Open University and it turns out I got accepted for both of the post-grad courses I applied for.

The other one is 'Agile Leadership and Management'. The Entrepreneurship one goes from November to January. Then the management one starts in March or April.

So now I'm doing two post-grad micro-credentials. I kinda like that name. It's kinky to me, as a hobby student.

Had a meeting with my US boss last night to discuss my possible transition into working full time for them.

She told me if I'd made the suggestion three days earlier, I'd have been just in time to start FT immediately. So, as it stands, I have to wait for a couple of months until literally January 1st.

That's not exactly a bummer. In fact, I can't think of a more perfect date to start. New-year-new-me and all that bollocks.

Lots of new projects coming up for Q1 and Q2. New clients that I'll be managing. The flexibility is going to be amazing and I believe having this relative freedom to work when I want is going to enable any other projects and shit I have going on because I don't have to waste my day in an office making other cunts rich.

It means I'll have to stay in my current role until then, but I emailed my manager on Monday telling her I'd be working from home for the foreseeable. She didn't respond to that. I imagine them all sitting around picking out mistakes and shit to use to fire me, but if they do I've got my defense.

I couldn't really care, though. Even if I did get fired (which is very unlikely) I get to take a little break before walking into a genuinely enjoyable new career, and during the break I have plenty of free time to get stuck into the post-grad study.

My acting manager invited me to a meeting next week to discuss my request to work from home. Sent an official letter and all with the email.

She said one of the finance team will be there as a witness, and asked that if I wanted to bring my own witness, to let her know in advance. Also said it would be better done in person, but that they could cater for a virtual meeting if needs be, and sent me a link for the meeting.

I responded thanking her and said I wouldn't accept or reject the virtual invite just yet, and I'll let her know on Monday if I wish to come in or not for the meeting later in the week. I also said I don't see any requirement for me to take a witness.

Why on earth would I need a witness with me to discuss working from home? None of this official shit was needed when we got SENT home due to Covaids.

I'm not overly worried. As far as I'm concerned it's just a discussion about my current state of mind and my capability to fulfill my work obligations remotely.

Which is what the meeting is, of course, however, given my current feelings on the atmosphere within that place, I won't be too surprised if there's an attack. And the fact there's a "witness" doesn't seem necessary.
