Went for the medical, & walked out quite pleased that the requirements meant I was excluded from participation.

The reason for exclusion was because I'd donated blood platelets within the last 3 months.

The reason I was pleased is because that after going through the paperwork & talking with the doctor, I was worried.

As I went in for the medical, my mindset was to maybe keep some info from them such as the blood donation & past drug use so as to secure a place, but deep down I knew it would be unwise to keep such info to myself, after all this is my fucking health we're talking about here.

So I was honest with them, with the new mindset of "FIND SOMETHING THAT MEANS YOU CAN'T ACCEPT ME" as I was on the fence now.

I grilled the doctor, holding nothing back, & he commented about 5 times "good question Dan"

I was talking to other volunteers there who had done this before, expressing that I was a bit worried about it, & one said he'd been coming here for the last decade, that it's a "walk in the park" or something like that.

On this occasion I'm happy to walk from it, 2 grand wasn't even worth the concerns I had, & that's before the trial even began.

I'm not ruling it out for future trials though, I'll keep an eye out for less scary ones, ones that aren't being tested "for the first time on humans".

Just got an email through tonight of a mate that's doing 1 of these trials

"I'm getting 800 whilst sending you this email. Though I wasn't told I'd have insane diarrhoea to the point where I'm sounding like a pregnant woman clenching the fucking disabled bars for balance... Just thought you'd like to know."

That's a really shitty side effect.

I'm gunna attend a screening on Friday to see if I'm eligible to take part in a study where I'll have to stay over for 9 nights in return for 1500.

This is the study description:

The study is testing a new 7 day patch containing an opioid painkiller similar to morphine. The drug has been tested before as an intravenous drug but this will be the first time it will be tested being absorbed through the skin from a patch.

During the phonecall when asked about illicit drugs I was upfront about when the last time I took them & what I took. She said there's a small chance that might rule me out but because it was so long ago it may be ok.

However, I've slightly exaggerated the truth about the last time I donated blood platelets. When the study starts it will have been 2 months since the last time I donated but I told her it will have been 3, which is in the rules, but I'm hardly going to die from wearing a painkilling patch because I didn't wait another month right? Anyone able to give me any reason why it could be a bad idea?

I've had friends do these trials before - if you're lucky enough to get the placebo you're golden. From memory you get an idea on how risky the treatment is before going in - presumably it's linked to the amount of cash you get. One of my mates on a trial met a guy (could be bullshit) who did these full time - they limit the allowable frequency but he beat this by doing them in different EU countries one after another. He said there's a year of his life that he does not remember....

It's shitty hospital food that would put me off the most. If there was a trial that involved McDonald's or 'How many Carvery's can you eat in a week' I'd be game.

When I was in there were two fellas who were getting paid a few hundred quid to eat McDonalds three times a day for two days. They had to have a tube up their nose the whole time but still, piece of piss.

I would have no hesitation in signing up to do that.

I saw 1 about drinking tea not so long ago, something like 20 cups of tea a day for a few days. You could shit out of the eye of an needle with that much tea. Plus it will probably wreck your throat/voice box, I know a lass that needed surgery on her throat because she drank tea excessively.

Really?!

That's incredible? Is this a well known thing that tea fucks your throat up?

What!? I'm actually concerned now...

A problem can not be solved from the same logical level it was created.
