We should. Public speaking, even if they have no speech impediments, is something most people will avoid like the plague.

In primary school the teacher asked me to read a passage from a book to the class. Other people had already managed it. I was so overcome with self-consciousness I couldn't do it. I think from that point I went into my shell, not to emerge a for a long, long time.

In contrast, yesterday at work I had to walk into a room full of people I hadn't met before and give them a talk. I spoke confidently for 70 minutes including Q&A (no notes, no slides) and got a round of applause at the end.

This year I also managed to do a few direct approaches in the day time; something I never imagined I would ever do. Its a cliche to quote The Blueprint but I will. In it he says "You can be sitting with your buddies nice and chill then you see a girl but your chill, relaxed, all that effort of going over there and speaking etc is a lot". I think he calls it inertia.

That's me, Im always going about my day and used to the habit/routine of doing that without approaching. Its a tough habit to break. Sure I have 'fear' but I also had/have AA when in the club yet I get over it every single night. Whether Im drunk or not.

Admitting this a good start, and pretty much all I or Jynxy is suggesting. Like the club, you can get over your apprehension of approaching in the day, but it is you who needs to take action.

The rest is just excuses.
