Stopping a chick, making a snap decision then regretting it

Hi, does anyone stop a chick, find something vaguely off putting about her appearance then ask directions instead?

And then kick themselves because they didn't go through with the approach?

How do you deal with that split second decision?

I usually ask for directions first, and then telling her i dont care about the starbucks or w/e I only want to meet you cause you are attractive.. at this point the woman usually wants to walk away so I would use immediate assumptions to try to hook the set.
