I registered to do a trial today. It begins on Friday the 20th. It's 3 nights in the clinic followed by 11 one hour visits over the following weeks.

I'll get paid £1988.

This is the description of the drug...

The study is testing a new drug (HD201) and comparing it to a second drug, Herceptin®, which is a licensed medication used in the treatment of metastatic breast and gastric cancer. This is the first time the drug is being tested in humans and it will be given intravenously.

The girl on the phone told me side effects would be fever, nausea (i think) in fact I can't remember all the effects she said even though i made her say it twice.

I'm not guaranteed yet as I have to pass the medical & the cardiovascular, but would appreciate some thoughts & opinions on this latest endeavor of mine.

You could get a placebo though, half the participants get a fake dose, although it's not great to play Russian roulette. But I'm not sure if placebos can be injected, they might be only given in the tablet form.

Jaz, what trials have you done, & did you die?

I'll go to the medical on Friday anyways & grill them about everything. Especially the death rate, Phil.

There is an inherent risk in any trail, but the is dosage is much lower than the EC50 for the drug it's self, what they are usually testing for is metabalites and half lifes for the compound. There is a risk of adverse side effects is there but I would say its minimal

I wouldn't worry and take the cash monies

This is the people...

Bio-Kinetic Europe, World Class Clinical Research Based in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom

I heard about them on the radio, & they are advertised on TV too.

There's always going to be side effects & risks, but surely if it wasn't safe they wouldn't be in business.

I'm compiling a list of questions I will ask on Friday, so far I've got...

Did any animals die when it was tested on them?

What is the worst reaction to any drug that anyone has ever had on one of their trials?

If I were to take part & something goes wrong during the trial will there be some form of antidote or reversal medicine to administer?

That's all I've got so far, feel free to give me more questions I can ask.

I'm actually feeling a little bit scared now. Writing out those questions has freaked me out.

I'd ask if you would be entitled to any long term therapy that you may need as a result of the clinical trial that might not otherwise be covered by the NHS, mental or physical.

And in the likely result of your death, will there be a compensation payout to your family for funeral costs etc.

And do they have any games consoles in the ward.

[quote=kowalski;81997]Personally, I don't even take the stuff the doctor prescribes me when I'm genuinely ill unless he says I won't get better without it. Usually they say I will get better in roughly the same amount of time with or without the medicine, so why would I take it?

Me neither. Anytime I've been on antibiotics I sort of stop after about a day or 2.

Pharmaceutical companies are fucked up and the drugs they make, not the sketchy trial ones you are messing with but the final ones that are actually approved and released for human consumption, are deadly.

Drugs for fun, though, is a totally different story.

When I think about it, nothing killed me before. I mean, I did have more than a few frightening experiences, but that was the least I could have expected what with the monumental amounts of illegal shit I was taking.

I'm sure these new pharmaceuticals, in a controlled & closely monitered environment, couldn't be more harmful than taking 6 or 7 ecstasy pills, that have god knows what in them, back-to-back as a top up to the 20 or so you've already taken.

It would be extremely fucking ironic if I died now from a drug trial after the excessive drug past I had, as well as me now despising drugs.

Ask if you can drink ginger tea. Just say you really like it and normally drink it everyday. (In trials with chemotherapy patients 2 grams of ginger killed nausea as effectively as the strongest anti-nausea medicine but without the awful side-effects)./QUOTE]

Definitely will.
